The shimmer of an aurora, captured in an obiage.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
A curtain of light that appears, unbidden, in the night sky.
From blue to jade, from jade to gold —
colors that sway and never settle into a single form.
An obiage by Wakomono Sakura
"Aurora Rokechi with Shikebiki Gold"
Rokechi — wax-resist dyeing — leaves a delicate crackled texture where the wax breaks.
Across it run fine lines of gold, drawn in the shikebiki technique.
As the light shifts, blue and jade rise softly from the deep indigo ground,
and the gold flows and glints.
An obiage shows only a few centimeters above the obi.
Yet to hold this much depth in such a small space —
that, I believe, is the true power of an artisan's hand.
Paired with a black or deep navy obi, it becomes the night sky.
Against a white or ivory kimono, a single ray of light at the chest.
One last story, added to the ensemble.
And on days when you wear Western clothes, it is just as lovely worn as a scarf.
