一点ごとに異なる景色を描き出します

誉田屋源兵衛の中でも
限られた職人のみが手がけることのできる特別な仕事です

その上に重ねられたのは
誉田屋源兵衛を代表する意匠のひとつ「破れ格子」。

格子は本来
秩序や規律を象徴する伝統文様ですが

その整った形をあえて崩すことで
既成概念にとらわれない自由な精神や
新しい価値観への挑戦を表現しています。

常識や権威に縛られない生き方を貫いた人々の美意識とも重なり

型にはまらず
自らの信念を貫く力強さを感じさせる文様として受け継がれてきました。

This striking yukata features the soft, organic variations unique to Kago Shibori, set against a deep sumi-black ground.

Kago Shibori is a highly specialized dyeing technique in which the fabric is carefully gathered and packed into a basket before being dyed.

No two pieces are ever alike, creating a one-of-a-kind landscape of shadows, textures, and movement.

Even within Kondaya Genbei, only a select few artisans possess the skill to create this remarkable work.

Layered over the rich dyeing is “Yabure Gōshi” (Broken Lattice), one of Kondaya Genbei’s signature motifs.

Traditionally, lattice patterns symbolize order, structure, and discipline.

By intentionally disrupting and breaking that orderly form, the design expresses a spirit of individuality, freedom, and the courage to challenge convention.

The motif is often associated with those who chose to live beyond established norms, embodying strength, independence, and unwavering conviction.

Its timeless appeal continues to resonate today.
